Tammy Abraham scored a hat-trick and took his goal tally for the season to 17 as Chelsea’s Under-18s began their defence of the FA Youth Cup with a 6-1 win over Huddersfield Town.
Jay Dasilva had a hand in three of the goals, setting up the first for Abraham after just three minutes with a left-wing cross that the striker headed home.
The second goal was very similar as Abraham once again nodded in from a Dasilva delivery shortly after the half-hour mark.
And Dasilva proved his worth at the other end as he cleared off the line to prevent Regan Booty from scoring.
However, Huddersfield did pull a goal back in the second half from a corner, which was headed in by skipper Jamie Spencer.
Chelsea restored the two-goal lead as Terriers defender Jacob Hanson turned Dasilva’s cross into his own net, and their late dominance was underlined with three goals in the final 10 minutes.
Ike Ugbo grabbed the fourth as he netted after Abraham hit the post, Dujon Sterling scored on his debut and Abraham completed the victory in injury time.
The Blues would meet QPR in the fourth round if they overcome Manchester United next Tuesday.
