Diego Costa has completed a medical at Chelsea ahead of a proposed £32m move to Stamford Bridge from Atletico Madrid.
The Spain international, who was born in Brazil, is set to discuss personal terms after Chelsea met a buyout clause in his Atletico contract.
Costa, 25, scored 36 goals in 52 games for Atletico last season, helping them win the La Liga title and reach the final of the Champions League.
Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho has long made it clear he is determined to sign at least one top-level striker before the start of next season.
Blues forwards Samuel Eto’o, Fernando Torres and Demba Ba managed a total of 19 goals between them last term.
Nine of them were scored by Eto’o, who is now a free agent and is expected to move on this summer.
