Chelsea boss Antonio Conte backed the introduction of video technology into English football and insisted he had no issue with the penalty claim turned down by the officials against Arsenal.
On-field referee Martin Atkinson consulted the remote video assistant referee, based in Stockley Park in Uxbridge, after Cesc Fabregas went down under a challenge from Danny Welbeck.
Play had continued immediately after the incident, with an incensed Conte making the VAR signal with his hands towards the fourth official.
But the Italian said he was satisfied the right decision had been reached after Atkinson checked at the next natural break in play.
“I am sure the referee checked this situation,” he said.
“I’m very positive [about VAR] because I think when there is a big doubt it’s right the referee and the other referee watch the video to make the best decision.
“Everyone wants less mistakes during the game. I think this could be positive, for sure.”
Conte was frustrated his side had been unable to make a breakthrough against Arsenal in the Carabao Cup semi-final first leg, but insisted the tie is still in the balance.
“We didn’t concede a goal and when you play a semi-final over two games, that’s important,” he said.
“We tried to win. We shot over 20 times. We created chances to score but we didn’t take them.
“I think we have the same probability [as Arsenal] to play the final – 50-50.
“Not conceding at home could be very important. But at the same time we know very well to play at the Emirates Stadium is not simple, not easy.”
