Terry to miss FA Cup game against City

John Terry has been ruled out of Chelsea’s FA Cup fifth-round clash with Manchester City on Sunday.

Blues skipper Terry, 35, is still struggling with the hamstring problem that kept him out of Tuesday’s Champions League game against Paris St-Germain.

Boss Guus Hiddink confirmed on Friday that Terry has been unable to recover in time for City’s visit and that centre-back Matt Miazga’s fitness continues to be assessed following the American’s recent arrival at the club.

Another recent signing, Brazilian forward Alexandre Pato, is not yet being considered for selection.

Chelsea are hopeful Terry will be available for the league game against Southampton a week on Saturday.

“He’s worked with the physios and was trying to be fit, but there are too many problems for him to be fit for the weekend,” said Hiddink.

“We have a week and I hope that next weekend he will be available. I cannot predict it. I think we have to be cautious with him – we must be careful.

“Of course it is disappointing. He has been a leader for this club for years.”

Miazga, 20, has yet to make his debut following his move from New York Red Bulls.

“He is close. He had a good pre-season and has been doing some tests,” said Hiddink.

“Normally he will be fit. This weekend, it is too early (to say if he will play).”
