Conte indicates Alonso will feature against Leicester

Antonio Conte has indicated that Marcos Alonso will make his Chelsea debut in Tuesday’s EFL Cup tie against Leicester.

Alonso’s recent move from Fiorentina gives boss Conte another option at left-back, where Cesar Azpilicueta has been operating for the Blues.

David Luiz will replace the injured John Terry at centre-back for Friday’s game against Liverpool – the Brazilian’s first appearance since his surprise return to Chelsea from Paris St-Germain.

And it appears that Alonso, 25, will not have to wait much longer to make his bow.

Conte said: “Alonso is ready to play and tomorrow if there is a necessity then he can play, I am sure.

“After the Liverpool game we have another tough game against Leicester and it can be a good opportunity to see Marcos Alonso.”

Conte has also reiterated that he has full confidence in Luiz and has reacted to speculation over Cesc Fabregas’ future by insisting the midfielder is in Chelsea’s plans.
