Sarri convinced Higuain can rediscover his best form
Maurizio Sarri is convinced Gonzalo Higuain is not past his best and that the striker can rediscover his best form.
Chelsea on Wednesday night confirmed the arrival of Higuain, who previously played under Blues boss Sarri at Napoli.
He was superb for the Naples club but more recently there have been doubts over whether Higuain is still a top-level player.
Juventus allowed him to leave on loan for AC Milan, where he struggled.
His season-long deal at the San Siro was scrapped in order for him to move on loan to Stamford Bridge, where Sarri is convinced the Argentina international, 31, will make an impact despite his apparent failure to perform in Italy.
Sarri said: “I wouldn’t call it a failure. He had some problems and he’s found himself in a team that is not at the same level as Juventus.
“I know he had some difficulties recently but we hope we can get him back to his best form.”
Chelsea are usually reluctant to sign players over the age of 30 but have backed Sarri’s judgement.
“I think that the club agreed with me when I told them my opinion about the team,” Sarri said.
“The January window is very difficult, especially for a striker. It’s very difficult in January to find one of the most important strikers in the world.
“So I think the club is working very well because it’s not easy to get a new striker – a very important striker – in the January market.”
