A look at some the transfer stories involving Chelsea in Tuesday’s newspapers…
West Ham continue to be linked with Danny Drinkwater, with the Daily Mirror claiming the east London club’s chances of signing him could depend on whether Luka Modric moves.
The logic of the Mirror’s story is that if Inter Milan sign Modric from Real Madrid it could lead to the Italian side selling Matias Vecino to Chelsea, who could then offload Drinkwater on loan.
The Mirror say Chelsea want a loan fee of around £3m and his wages – reportedly £130,000 – covered and another player brought in before letting him go.
Real’s Mateo Kovačić is another midfielder Chelsea have been linked with ahead of Thursday’s deadline.
The Sun reports that the Croatia international is refusing to train with Real, apparently in an attempt to force a move.
The Sun claim Kovačić, apparently rated at £54m, is also wanted by Manchester United but believes his style might not be suited to playing under United’s former Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho.
Apparently that makes the Blues favourites to sign him – if he decides to move to the Premier League.
Meanwhile, amid doubts over Thibaut Courtois’ future, Chelsea are inevitably being linked a number of potential replacement goalkeepers.
Jack Butland is certainly a target and the Daily Express claim that as well as the Stoke keeper there is also interest in AC Milan’s Pepe Reina, Atletico Madrid’s Jan Oblak and Sevilla’s Sergio Rico.
And the Daily Telegraph reports that Crystal Palace have not received any approaches for Wilfried Zaha despite claims Chelsea have been looking to sign him.
