Wolves v Chelsea player ratings

Tammy Abraham grabbed a classy hat-trick as Chelsea returned to action after the international break with a thumping win against Wolves. Here’s how we rated each Blues player in the 5-2 victory at Molineux.

Kepa Arrizabalaga: 6

The Blues keeper could arguably have done better with the first goal but he did pull off a couple of good saves.

Cesar Azpilicueta: 7

A solid performance from the Chelsea captain. He didn’t have to do anything special, but was there to settle the team down when needed.

Andreas Christensen: 8

Christensen was a dominant figure in the back line. The Danish defender was excellent in the air and on the ground.

Antonio Rudiger: 7

The German started his first game of the season following his recovery from a knee injury and performed as though he had never been away.

Fikayo Tomori: 9

A calm, assured performance from the youngster and what a first goal to open his Chelsea account. It’s unlikely he will score a better one for the rest of his career.

Marcos Alonso: 8

He was energetic up and down the left wing and provided a lovely assist for Abraham’s second goal of the game.

Jorginho: 8

The Jorginho many expected to see when he arrived at Stamford Bridge. He was calm on the ball and was part of a midfield that controlled the game with an excellent assist for Abraham to complete his hat-trick.

Mateo Kovacic: 8

Like Jorginho, Kovacic looks a different player to the one of last season. He was part of a midfield three that bossed a talented Wolves team throughout the first half.

Willian: 7

The Brazillian put in a solid display and played his part in a fine attacking display without managing to get on the scoresheet.

Mason Mount: 9

If anyone deserved a goal it was Mount. The young English backbone is proving pivotal in what the Blues are doing this season and he looks to be getting better and better with each game.

Tammy Abraham: 9

Almost a 10/10 performance for the hat-trick hero whose hold-up play and awareness also stood out. Many were wondering how Chelsea would cope without being able to sign a big-name number nine this season but Abraham is providing the answers, his goals at Molineux making it seven in three games. Three sublime finishes handed him what could well be the first of many match balls.

Kurt Zouma: 6

Zouma replaced Rudiger at half-time and although he didn’t make any serious errors, the defence looked less secure than in the first period.

Ross Barkley: 6

Similar to Zouma, when Barkley took up his place in the midfield, the Blues lost a bit of their authority.

Michy Batshuyai: 7

Only had about 15 minutes to make a difference but he was certainly the most notable performer out of the three substitutes. An excellent save from Patricio prevented him getting on the scoresheet but his lively cameo was encouraging.
