Kovacic says he expects to leave Chelsea
Mateo Kovacic has been quoted as saying that he expects to leave Chelsea this summer.
The Croatia midfielder, 29, is entering the final year of his contract at Stamford Bridge and has not agreed a new deal.
Croatian magazine Nacional has quoted him as saying: “I have one more year with Chelsea. This season was very bad.
“Everything is going towards the fact that after five good years I will change, but in football anything can happen. Right now, I’m focused on Croatia and the Nations League.”
Champions Manchester City have been linked with Kovacic, who has made 142 Premier League appearances for Chelsea.
“Manchester City is a top team and deserves to be in the Champions League final. That’s what I have to say. The summer is long, we’ll see what happens,” he reportedly said.
“Chelsea is phenomenal for me. I love the city and the fans and they love me. I have wonderful memories of Chelsea. We’ll see what happens.”
Kovacic is a among a number of midfielders who could leave Chelsea this summer.
There continues to be speculation over the futures of Mason Mount and Conor Gallagher, while Saudi Arabian club Al-Ittihad want N’Golo Kante and AC Milan are confident of a deal to sign Ruben Loftus-Cheek.
