Leicester hit back to deny Lampard first win

Chelsea 1 Leicester 1

Wilfred Ndidi’s equaliser denied Frank Lampard a first win as Chelsea boss.

Ndidi’s early error led to Mason Mount scoring on his home debut, but the Nigerian later hauled Leicester level with a powerful header.

Lampard, the Blues’ all-time record goalscorer, was given a hero’s reception by the home fans for his first game in charge at Stamford Bridge.

And he was given a dream start by Mount’s seventh-minute goal.

Mount dispossessed Ndidi near the edge of the Foxes penalty area and slotted past keeper Kasper Schmeichel.

But Ndidi redeemed himself midway through the second half in emphatic fashion, getting between Kurt Zouma and Cesar Azpilicueta to head home James Maddison’s right-wing corner.

Having made such an excellent start, Chelsea faded badly as the game wore on and were fortunate not to go behind.

Maddison missed a glorious chance by blasting over from close range and Lampard’s side had another let-off when Jamie Vardy fired wide of the far post from a tricky angle.

Chelsea: Kepa, Azpilicueta, Christensen, Zouma, Emerson, Kante, Jorginho [Kovacic 71], Mount, Pedro, Pulisic [Willian 71], Giroud [Abraham 61].
Subs not used: Caballero, Alonso, Tomori, Barkley.
