Giroud completes Chelsea move as Batshuayi joins Dortmund
Chelsea have completed the signing of Olivier Giroud from Arsenal and loaned Michy Batshuayi to Borussia Dortmund.
French striker Giroud, 31, has signed an 18-month contract at Stamford Bridge.
Batshuayi has therefore joined Borussia Dortmund as a replacement for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, whose sale to Arsenal paved the way for Giroud to move on.
“Chelsea is one of the biggest teams in the Premier League,” Giroud told the Blues’ website.
“They have won maybe the most trophies in the last six or seven years. It’s a massive club and I am proud to sign for Chelsea, and I’m looking forward to playing.”
Giroud joined Arsenal from Montpellier in the summer of 2012 and has scored 73 Premier League goals in 180 appearances.
Batshuayi will spend the rest of the season in Germany, having been unable to establish himself as a first-team regular since moving to the Bridge from Marseille in the summer of 2016.
