Wednesday among clubs keen on Chelsea’s Clarke-Salter

Sheffield Wednesday are the front-runners in a race to sign Chelsea defender Jake Clarke-Salter on loan.

Former England Under-21s captain Clarke-Salter spent last season with Birmingham having previously been loaned out to Bristol Rovers, Sunderland and Vitesse Arnhem – and looks set again to leave Stamford Bridge.



The domestic transfer window closes at 5pm on Friday.

Wednesday, who are bottom of the Championship with minus eight points after being sanctioned for breaching the Football League’s Financial Fair Play regulations last season, are keen to bring the 23-year-old to Hillsborough.

Clarke-Salter’s Chelsea team-mate Izzy Brown joined the Owls at the start of the season.

Derby and Huddersfield are also interested in signing the south Londoner.
