Some of the stories in Thursday’s newspapers involving Chelsea…
Chelsea’s dismal defeat at Bournemouth has prompted speculation that Maurizio Sarri’s position could be under threat.
The Daily Mail declare that the Blues head coach is “battling to save his job” in the wake of Wednesday’s 4-0 thrashing and that reaching the Carabao Cup final “may not be enough to save Sarri given owner Roman Abramovich’s renowned lack of patience.”
Many of the travelling Chelsea fans turned on Sarri with chants of “You don’t know what you’re doing” when he took off recent signing Gonzalo Higuain during the second half.
A number of Thursday’s newspapers, such as the Daily Mirror, note that Sarri was still in the dressing room speaking to his players an hour after the game.
Meanwhile, Paris St-Germain are set to make a pre-deadline bid for Chelsea’s Willian, again according to the Mail.
The Mail also say West Ham are ready to make another move for Chelsea striker Olivier Giroud ahead of the transfer deadline.
It is claimed that the Hammers, who tried to sign Giroud prior to his move from Arsenal to Chelsea, want him because they fear they could be without the injured Marko Arnautovic for some time.
And The Guardian say Everton want Michy Batshuayi but have been told that Chelsea want £35m for him.
