Jorginho made his debut as Chelsea comfortably won their first match under new boss Maurizio Sarri, beating Perth Glory 1-0 in their opening pre-season friendly.
Pedro scored the game’s only goal, side-footing home after just four minutes following good work on the left by Callum Hudson-Odoi.
Jorginho, recently signed from Sarri’s former club Napoli, played the first half and impressed, seeing plenty of the ball and using it well.
Teenage forward Hudson-Odoi impressed too, causing the hosts major problems before also being replaced at half-time.
Cesc Fabregas captained the side in Australia, where a number of youngsters are part of the Blues squad – largely because of the absence of players who were involved in the recent World Cup.
Those youngsters include keeper Marcin Bulka, who was given a chance to impress, while Ethan Ampadu returned to action after injury. Ross Barkley also featured.
Alvaro Morata had a chance to double Chelsea’s lead but was unable to get the ball fully under control after being put through by Barkley and keeper Liam Reddy saved at his feet.
Pedro also missed a decent chance, dragging a shot wide of the target after being set up by Davide Zappacosta.
In the second half, Barkley’s scuffed effort hit the post before Zappacosta, Fabregas and Mario Pasalic all fired wide.
And as Chelsea continued to dominate, Pedro’s volley from Emerson’s cross brought a save from Reddy, who also denied Lucas Piazon.
