Fernando Torres has been passed fit for Chelsea’s match against Cardiff after recovering from a knee problem slightly sooner than expected.
The Blues striker went off during the recent Champions League win against Steaua Bucharest and the results of scan suggested he was likely to be sidelined for at least three weeks with medial ligament damage.
But he has returned to training and is set to be included in boss Jose Mourinho’s squad for Saturday’s game, although Torres does not yet know whether he will play.
Mourinho confirmed: “I have Fernando. He is ready to play. He doesn’t know whether he will play yet – nobody knows.
“I was doing tactical work in training but didn’t want to show the players who will play. I mixed the teams up so the players don’t know.”
Meanwhile, Andre Schurrle has been ruled out after picking up a knock while on international duty with Germany this week.
And Ashley Cole remains sidelined with the rib injury which kept him out of England’s World Cup qualifiers.
