Mason Mount made his full England debut as they lost 2-1 to the Czech Republic in a Euro 2020 qualifier.
The young midfielder, who has been outstanding since being promoted to the Chelsea first team, got the nod ahead of his Blues team-mate Ross Barkley, who came on for him with 18 minutes remaining in Prague.
Chelsea striker Tammy Abraham was introduced as a late substitute after the hosts had taken the lead.
An England win would have sealed qualification for next year’s tournament.
Meanwhile, Chelsea’s Callum Hudson-Odoi was withdrawn at half-time in Slovenia, where England’s Under-21 side drew 2-2 after being two up.
Chelsea’s Marc Guehi also played, as did Conor Gallagher, who came on as a substitute.
