Joseph Colley’s second-half goal gave Chelsea’s development side a 1-0 victory at Swansea on Sunday afternoon.
With Ethan Ampadu and Luke McCormick injured and the likes of Tammy Abraham and Charly Musonda having recently moved on loan, boss Joe Edwards’ options were reduced, but his team nevertheless battled to a deserved win.
Colley (pictured) scored just before the hour mark, bundling the ball in after Swansea were unable to clear a Blues corner and Tariq Uwakwe’s cross back into the box had been headed on by Billy Gilmour.
Goalkeeper Marcin Bulka, who impressed for the first team during pre-season, was taken off in the second half after suffering a facial injury.
On Saturday, Chelsea’s Under-18s beat Arsenal 3-1 on Saturday courtesy of goals from Thierno Ballo, Clinton Mola and Ian Maatsen.
Ballo opened the scoring after just four minutes at Chelsea’s Cobham training ground by tucking away the loose ball after George Nunn’s header from Maatsen’s cross had been parried by keeper Arthur Okonkwo.
The lead was doubled 11 minutes into the second half when Okonkwo was unable to keep out Mola’s low shot.
Folarin Balogun’s header pulled a goal back for the visitors but Maatsen responded by firing into the top corner with 10 minutes remaining.
