Chelsea’s new signing Nkunku faces lengthy spell out
Chelsea have confirmed new signing Christopher Nkunku is set for a prolonged spell on the sidelines after undergoing knee surgery.
The French forward, who signed for £52 million from RB Leipzig in a deal that was agreed last year, damaged the cartilage in his right knee during the Blues’ pre-season friendly draw against Borussia Dortmund in Chicago and will miss the start of the new Premier League season.
Blues boss Maurico Pochettino had hoped the injury to the 25-year-old was not too serious, but after returning to London Nkunku had an operation that is expected to keep him sidelined until December.
Nkunku was one of Chelsea’s standout performers during their recent tour of America, scoring three times.
Pochettino will begin his reign as Blues boss against Liverpool at Stamford Bridge on Sunday.
