A look at the stories in Friday’s newspapers involving Chelsea…
Chelsea have reopened talks with Lyon over a potential deal to sign Moussa Dembele, The Sun say.
The former Fulham forward has been linked with top Premier League clubs for several years and has been touted for a move to Chelsea during this month’s transfer window.
Blues boss Frank Lampard recently expressed surprise at reports the club were pursuing deal for Dembele, suggesting that Chelsea are not in fact looking to sign him.
“He’s a player I know and a player the club know,” Lampard said.
“But I’m surprised to see his name pop up so regularly when it’s not popping up in my conversations so regularly, to be brutally honest, and there’s quite a few players in the last week that I could say the same about.
“It’s not one that we’re openly talking about and if there’s a decision I’ll be a big part of that decision.”
Nevertheless, The Sun say Chelsea have restarted discussions over the possible £45m signing of Dembele in case they miss out on Edinson Cavani.
Lampard has indicated that he is interested in Cavani, who has asked to leave Paris St-Germain.
Meanwhile, the Daily Telegraph say Manchester United are also interested in Canavi, whose parents have been quoted in the Spanish press as saying that the Uruguay forward would favour move to Atletico Madrid.
The Daily Mail link Chelsea with a possible move for Burnley’s England international goalkeeper Nick Pope.
And the Daily Express say Chelsea are set to miss out on Dynamo Zagreb’s Dani Olmo.
It was claimed that the Spain winger, who is now tipped to join RB Leipzig, was a Chelsea transfer target.
