Michy Batshuayi’s late goal gave Chelsea a priceless Champions League victory. Here’s how we rated each Blues player against Ajax.
Rarely tested but dealt well with balls into his area.
Solid and dependable on his 350th Chelsea appearance.
Hit and miss, but looks more comfortable on the right of a back three.
Pulled himself together after a dodgy first half. An early mistake almost proved costly but he was much improved in the second half.
A clever step over the ball helped tee up Batshuayi’s goal. The Spaniard worked hard on the left.
Not at his best and was fortunate when Ajax hit the post after he lost his man at a corner. Won his fair share of challenges in midfield though.
Did well in midfield and got through plenty of work off the ball.
Combative and a threat going forward. Had a couple of efforts on goal and always looked to create.
Lively at times, but picked up a knock in the second half and was struggling when replaced by Christian Pulisic.
A learning experience for the young striker, who found the going tough against Ajax’s streetwise centre-backs. Worked hard up front but had little joy before being taken off with 20 minutes remaining.
Bright in the first half but did appear to run out of steam, perhaps feeling the effect of his recent return to action after a long spell out injured.
Lively after coming on against Newcastle and was impressive again after his second-half introduction. Set up two chances for Batshuayi – the second of which the Belgian took – and went close to scoring himself.
Guilty of an appalling miss before making amends in emphatic fashion.

I advise Lampard to rest Abraham and Mount in the next match. There are replacements for them in Batshuayi and Pulisic. They are being overused. That's the problem with Kante.
