Eto’o is still a top-class player, says coach
Steve Holland says Samuel Eto’o proved he is still a top-class forward with his performance against Cardiff.
The former Barcelona and Inter Milan striker appeared slow to adapt to the pace of the Premier League following his move from Russian club Anzhi Makachkala.
However, he scored his first Chelsea goal in their 4-1 win against the Bluebirds on Saturday, with a fine finish from inside the box.
And assistant first-team coach Holland believes that will give Eto’o and his team-mates a morale boost ahead of Tuesday’s Champions League game against Schalke.
Holland said: “It’s always difficult when you change clubs, and changing countries and leagues even more so.
“Samuel has scored goals at the top level right throughout Europe but he’ll still be feeling happier to have that first one under his belt and get off the mark.
“Physically you can change but quality is permanent – we’ve seen that finishing in training for a good few weeks but it’s good the supporters got the chance to see it in a game.
“All strikers like to be scoring goals and hopefully we’ll get the benefit of that immediately.”
