Roberto Di Matteo shrugged off Chelsea’s loss against the MLS All-Stars in Philadelphia and said he was pleased with his team’s pre-season so far.
An injury-time winner by former Fulham forward Eddie Johnson gave the All-Stars a 3-2 victory in an entertaining friendly after goals from John Terry and Frank Lampard had put the Blues ahead.
But boss Di Matteo insisted the most important thing was the fitness of his players as their preparations for the new Premier League campaign take shape.
“An important aspect is we haven’t had any injuries so far,” he said.
“Some players have been back just a few days and the team is slowly coming together. It will take a little bit of time for sure.
“We’re disappointed with the result as we are always looking to win and we were a little bit stretched in the second half. It was a good test for us.
“We have to look to improve the way we play a little bit but I was happy with our play in the first half.”
