Chelsea boss Roberto Di Matteo was pleased with his side’s display against Reading despite some anxious moments in their 4-2 victory.
The Blues had to come from behind after keeper Petr Cech made a hash of Danny Guthrie’s free-kick, leaving Di Matteo’s men 2-1 down at half-time.
They looked uncomfortable for parts of the second half but Gary Cahill’s equaliser was followed by late goals from Fernando Torres and Branislav Ivanovic.
It means Chelsea, who won 2-0 at Wigan in their opening Premier League game, sit top of the table after two matches.
“I would like to think we are defensively quite good. We had a clean sheet on the first day and Reading scored but on the other hand we have scored six goals in two games,” Di Matteo argued.
“In the second half at 2-1 down we were very offensive and maybe lost our balance a bit, but we needed to attack.
“We are very pleased with six points after two games. I’m very happy with the team’s performance for long periods of the game.
“We started off very good, played great football and finished the game very strongly.”
On Torres’ goal, which was allowed to stand despite the Spaniard being in an offside position, Di Matteo said: “I haven’t seen it yet. I looked straightaway at the linesman and he didn’t look in any doubt and gave the goal straightaway.”
He added: “It’s good that we’ve won our opening games. Wigan away is never easy and neither is playing against a promoted team.
“We will enjoy tonight’s victory and from tomorrow morning we start thinking of Newcastle on Saturday.”
Di Matteo again refused to confirm that Chelsea are close to completing the signing of Marseille right-back Cesar Azpilicueta.
