Roberto Di Matteo insisted Chelsea would respond to the challenge of losing top spot in the Premier League.
Manchester United moved to the summit by beating Arsenal – and stayed there after Di Matteo’s side drew 1-1 at Swansea, where Pablo Hernandez netted a late equaliser for the hosts.
It left Chelsea second – a point better off than third-placed Manchester City – but the Blues boss remained upbeat about their title chances.
“It’s a long season and it’s going to be very tight,” he predicted.
“There are going to be a few teams fighting at the top but we are in touch and we are going to show how strong we are in the future.”
Chelsea were without the injured Juan Mata at the Liberty Stadium and the in-form Spaniard was certainly missed.
“We lacked a little creativity,” Di Matteo admitted.
“When the opposition equalise late on you always feel a bit unlucky, but Swansea scored a quality goal.”
