Defender a doubt for Aston Villa game

Chelsea’s Branislav Ivanovich could miss Saturday’s game against Aston Villa because of an ongoing thigh problem.

Ivanovich trained with the rest of the Blues squad in Lisbon on Monday and appeared to be winning his battle to be fit for the Champions League clash with Benfica.

But he failed a fitness test ahead of the match and is now a doubt for this weekend’s trip to the Midlands.

“At the moment he’s doubtful but we’re hoping he can recover as soon as possible,” Chelsea interim boss Roberto Di Matteo confirmed.

The defender picked up the injury during last week’s defeat at Manchester City and also missed the derby with Tottenham on Saturday.
