Conte keen to ‘finish the speculation’ over Costa
Antonio Conte said he hoped Diego Costa’s emphatic return to the Chelsea side would end speculation over the striker’s future.
Amid reports of a huge offer to play in China and a fall-out with Blues boss Conte, Costa was given a rousing reception from the home fans at Stamford Bridge.
And he responded with the opening goal in a 2-0 win over Hull that took the Premier League leaders eight points clear at the top of the table.
Conte reiterated that he believes Costa wants to stay at the club.
Conte said: “I hope this game will finish the speculation about him, about Chelsea and about him and me. We showed we are a team with great unity.
“Diego has two years of his contract left. He is very happy to stay with us and play for Chelsea.”
Chelsea were not at their best and Hull caused them some problems before Gary Cahill sealed the win with a header from Cesc Fabregas’ free-kick.
“For sure this game wasn’t our best, but I think that is normal,” Conte said.
“We are now in the second half of the season and the points are heavy for us and also for the other teams.
“I’m pleased because when I say this league is very difficult and easy games do not exist, it’s the reality.
“You saw this weekend that other teams dropped points. There is a lot of pressure playing the last game of the weekend – we have a lot of pressure whether other teams win or lose.”
