Chelsea win was deserved – Conte
Antonio Conte felt Chelsea’s dramatic Champions League win against Atletico Madrid was particularly satisfying because they were bold enough to attack the Spanish side.
The Premier League champions were always a threat and battled back after going a goal down against the run of play.
Alvaro Morata headed them level and substitute Michy Batshuayi scored with the final kick of the match to leave the hosts stunned.
“You can win, but if you win only on the counter-attack it is not the right satisfaction,” said Blues boss Conte.
“We came here wanting to play. Our answer was very positive. I’m pleased for my players – they deserved this.
“It was a good performance and we must be pleased with the spirit we showed. I am very happy and I think we deserved to win.”
Batshuayi’s goal continued his encouraging form since he initially struggled to make an impact following his move to Chelsea last year.
“Michy is a young player and last season he struggled a lot to understand the league, but he is improving and his commitment is very good,” said Conte.
“Don’t forget he scored against Qarabag and Nottingham Forest. I am very pleased for him.”
