Conte does not rule out taking Italy job
Antonio Conte has not ruled out a return to his previous job as Italy national coach following his country’s failure to qualify for the World Cup.
Conte, who took over at Chelsea after leaving the role of Italy boss in the summer of 2016, has been touted as a replacement for the sacked Giampiero Ventura.
It comes amid continued speculation about Conte’s future and reports claiming he could leave Stamford Bridge.
Asked at a news conference on Friday about suggestions the Italian Football Federation should reappoint him, Conte said: “No, I must be honest, I think now it is very difficult because in this moment it is not simple.
“There are a lot of rumours and a lot of news. I think the Federation has to find the right solution for the future of Italy.
“This is not a great moment for my country. To miss the World Cup after 56 years means it’s a disaster.”
Conte has previously dismissed speculation about his future, insisting he intends to stay at Chelsea.
