Antonio Conte says he is confident Andreas Christensen is ready to perform for Chelsea if called upon.
The 21-year-old has impressed playing in the German Bundesliga on loan with Borussia Monchengladbach during the past two seasons and has been involved with the first team during pre-season following John Terry’s retirement and the sale of Nathan Ake.
Christensen came on as an early substitute following Gary Cahill’s sending-off in the 3-2 home defeat against Burnley on the opening day of the season.
“I trust Christensen,” Blues boss Conte said. “Last week he played a good game and showed a great personality.
“For sure he can improve a lot. He is a young player but has a good prospect to be a Chelsea player.”
Christensen played 80 games while on loan in Germany but is yet to start a league game for Chelsea.
With Victor Moses available after suspension and Cesar Azpilicueta set to revert to one of the three centre-backs, the Dane is likely to be on the bench against Tottenham on Sunday
“He had a good experience with Borussia. Now he has the possibility to show he deserves to play regularly,” Conte added.
“I have already said that he is a player ready to play for Chelsea.”
