Chelsea boss Antonio Conte believes Michy Batshuayi has youth and physical strength on his side as battles to be fit for the World Cup.
The Belgium striker, on loan at Borussia Dortmund from Chelsea, was stretchered off after suffering an ankle injury while playing for the German club at the weekend.
Batshuayi’s domestic season is over but he has not been ruled out of this summer’s tournament.
And ex-Italy international Conte, who suffered a similar injury during his own playing career, is hoping the 24-year-old can make a swift recovery.
“In this moment I have no idea (whether he will make the World Cup). I hope for him to recover from this injury,” Conte said.
“I had this type of injury when I was a player and it was two months to recover well.
“But he’s a young and strong player and he can do this recovery in a short time.”
Batshuayi is expected to return to Chelsea for treatment as he attempts to recover quickly.
Conte explained: “Usually when our players are on loan and when there is an injury, especially a serious injury, they come back to try to recover here with our medical department.
“This happened with other players who have gone on loan and been injured.”
