Conta backs Musonda after superb Chelsea debut
Chelsea boss Antonio Conte says Charly Musonda is working to improve the physical side of his game in order to establish himself in the first team.
Musonda was hugely impressive on his full debut for the Blues, scoring their third goal and producing a fine all-round display in the 5-1 thrashing of Nottingham Forest in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday.
Conte praised the 20-year-old but added that he is still developing physically.
He said: “I think Charly played very well. He is trying to work a lot to improve his physical (strength). The league is very strong with the physical aspect.
“We are working very hard with Charlie in this aspect to be ready to play in this league, but for sure he is a talented player and when there is an opportunity to help us he must do this.”
Michy Batshuayi scored a hat-trick in a one-sided game at Stamford Bridge, where Kenedy also netted on his return to the team.
Andreas Christensen started and 17-year-olds Ethan Ampadu and Dujon Sterling came on for their senior debuts in the second half, when Jake Clarke-Salter also featured.
Conte said: “We must be pleased. We won the game and are through to the next round. I think it’s very positive for us.
“I gave the opportunity to some players and I think the answer was very good – very positive.
“I had the possibility to give a chance to young players from our academy and this is very positive.”
