Chelsea boss Roberto Di Matteo says he remains confident Ashley Cole will eventually sign a new deal at Stamford Bridge.
The left-back, whose late goal gave his team a 1-0 victory over Stoke to keep them at the top of the Premier League, is in the final year of his contract.
There has been much speculation about Cole’s future, with a number of clubs reported to be monitoring his situation.
But Di Matteo insisted: “I’m sure they’ll find a solution. Both parties are happy to talk
“It’s between Ashley and the club. My recommendation to the club is to make him stay here as long as they can.”
Chelsea endured a frustrating afternoon against the Potters before Cole popped up to score the winner with five minutes remaining.
“We started the second half really well, creating chances and opening them up. I thought it was a question of time before we scored,” said Di Matteo.
“When you play against Stoke it’s always hard to break them down. It helps if you can get an early goal, otherwise it’s hard work to try and find spaces.”

they should just offer him the length of contract he wants within reason as he is definitely the best right back in the world regardless of his age
