Chelsea’s Marin fine after injury scare

Chelsea’s Marko Marin appears to have shaken off a thigh strain and could be available for Wednesday’s derby against Fulham.

There was some concern over the German’s fitness after he complained of pain, but he trained on Tuesday morning without any problems.

Interim manager Rafael Benitez explained: “Marko Marin had a little problem but has been training today. He had a problem with his thigh but it’s not serious.”

Chelsea will again be without England defenders Ashley Cole and Gary Cahill at Craven Cottage.

Benitez is still without Cole and Cahill.

Cole has been nursing a hamstring problem, while Cahill is still recovering from a knee injury.

“They are progressing well but are still not ready for this game,” Benitez confirmed.

A win against their neighbours would take Chelsea back into the top three and keep them on track for a place in next season’s Champions League.

It would also be a major boost for the Blues following their FA Cup semi-final defeat against Manchester City at Wembley on Sunday.

Benitez said: “After that game, and the day after, we were really disappointed and sad because we were really close.

“But before the game against Fulham we are ready, focused and concentrating on this game.”

Meanwhile, Chelsea youngster Todd Kane’s loan at Blackburn has been extended until the end of the League season.
