Chelsea striker Diego Costa will miss the next three matches after being found guilty of violent conduct following an alleged stamp on Liverpool’s Emre Can.
The Football Association charge was upheld by an independent panel on Friday, meaning Costa will miss Saturday’s top-of-the-table game against Manchester City – as well as the fixtures against Aston Villa and Everton.
Blues top scorer Costa had denied the charge following the 12th-minute incident in Tuesday’s League Cup semi-final second leg at Stamford Bridge.
The incident was not seen at the time by referee Michael Oliver.
Chelsea, who won 2-1 on aggregate, will face London rivals Tottenham in the final at Wembley on 1 March.
