Chelsea’s youngsters were beaten 2-0 by Manchester City in the Under-21 Premier League on Monday evening.
Bersant Celina and Thierry Ambrose scored for the visitors in the game at Aldershot, where Blues striker Tammy Abraham (pictured) fired against the post before City took control.
They might have taken the lead sooner had Ola Aina not produced a fine challenge to thwart Ambrose and keeper Bradley Collins not saved Rodney Kongolo’s powerful header.
Collins was unable to keep out Ambrose’s brilliant free-kick on 20 minutes and Chelsea were unable to find an equaliser, with keeper Ian Lawlor saving from Abraham and Aina.
City remained a threat and Aina cleared Kongolo’s shot off the line shortly before a counter-attack led to Ambrose netting the second goal.
Chelsea’s Under-21s are in action again at Aldershot on Friday evening when they face Tottenham.
