Chelsea youngsters beaten by Southampton despite fine goal
Tariq Ukakwe scored with a cracking first-half strike – his first goal for Chelsea’s Under-18s – but they were beaten 3-2 at Southampton on Saturday.
The hosts were leading through Siph Mdlasose’s early goal when Ukakwe cleverly created space for himself near the edge of the penalty area and sent a left-footed shot beyond the keeper and into the net.
George McEachran – the younger brother of Brentford’s former Chelsea midfielder Josh – put the Blues ahead with a cool finish in the second half.
But Tyreke Johnson scored twice in the final 11 minutes to win the game for Southampton.
He netted from the penalty spot after keeper Jared Thompson had brought down Mdlalose, and then went one better by scoring with a dipping left-footed volley,
