Blues youngsters see run ended by Spurs
Chelsea’s youngsters missed the chance to go top of the Under-21s Premier League and lost their unbeaten record as Emmanuel Sonupe’s late goal earned Tottenham a 1-0 victory.
Spurs broke the deadlock in the 89th minute when Sonupe showed quick feet to crash the ball into the roof of the net after the ball fell kindly to him just inside the area.
Dominic Solanke, who made his first-team debut in Chelsea’s demolition of Maribor, looked lively during the first half.
But the closest his team came to taking the lead was when the impressive Fankaty Dabo saw his rasping strike brilliantly turned over the bar by keeper Luke McGee.
Spurs also threatened and Chelsea keeper Mitchell Beeney made a wonderful low reaction save to deny Josh Onomah after a defensive mix-up.
And Beeney made another fine save after the interval, racing from his goal to thwart the on-rushing Will Miller after a well-worked move.
At the other end, Chelsea’s best opening saw McGee react smartly to block Ola Aina’s clever dinked attempt following a delightful pass from Charly Musonda.
McGee also made a superb reaction save from Alex Kiwomya’s deflected strike.
