Chelsea youngsters beat Sunderland in extra time to reach semi-finals
Juan Castillo scored an extra-time winner and keeper Karlo Ziger saved a penalty in the final seconds as Chelsea beat Sunderland 2-1 to reach the semi-finals of the Under-18 Premier League Cup.
After Conor Gallagher’s second-half penalty put the visitors ahead, Sunderland themselves scored from the spot three minutes later, with Sam Greenwood hauling them level.
As the young Blues searched for a second goal, Tariq Lamptey twice hit the woodwork and, in the final stages of normal time, Charlie Brown missed a great chance for Chelsea.
Castillo struck just before the midway point in extra time when he scored following good work by Gallagher and George McEachran.
And Ziger made himself a hero by saving Greenwood’s second penalty of the game.
