Chelsea lose Conte’s first match in charge

Chelsea lost 2-0 to Rapid Vienna in a pre-season friendly in the Blues’ first match under Antonio Conte.

Brazilian striker Joelinton gave his team an early lead when he tapped into an empty net after rounding keeper Asmir Begovic.

And with Chelsea pushing forward in the final minutes, Rapid broke and Tomi tucked away the loose ball following a save from Begovic.

Chelsea did create openings, with Diego Costa heading Papy Djilobodji’s cross over and youngster Ola Aina firing against the post.

There was no sign of a change of formation by new boss Conte, who has previously favoured 3-5-2 and has been tipped to introduced that system at Chelsea.

Chelsea (4-2-3-1): Begovic; Ivanovic, Terry,, Djilobodji, Baba Rahman (Aina 45; Mikel (Chalobah 58), Matic (Traore 78); Willian (Kenedy 72), Loftus-Cheek (Oscar 45), Moses (Atsu 80); Costa (Remy 72).
