Chelsea v Spurs: Player ratings
Juan Mata’s controversial goal will make the headlines but what about his all-round performance? He was involved in much of his team’s best work against Spurs and arguably the man of the match. Here’s how we rated Chelsea’s players…
Petr Cech: 6
Perhaps fortunate not to be sent off after bringing down Emmanuel Adebayor, but the fact Cech was a spectator for much of the game puts Tottenham’s complaints about Juan Mata’s controversial goal in context.
Jose Bosingwa: 7
Potentially the weak link in Chelsea’s line-up given that he was up against Gareth Bale. Did well after a shaky start, although Bale was not at his best.
John Terry: 7
Summed up his importance to the Chelsea cause with a typical captain’s performance. Was in the right place to clear off the line when Spurs were dominating prior to Didier Drogba’s opener.
David Luiz: 6
Was putting in another assured display before being caught napping for Tottenham’s goal. Will be missed against Barcelona if, as expected, he is sidelined for Wednesday’s game through injury.
Ashley Cole: 7
Quiet going forward but very effective defensively. Gave Aaron Lennon no change at all.
Ramires: 7
Not at his very best, but as energetic as ever and finished nicely for the all-important third Chelsea goal.
John Obi Mikel: 5
Struggled to impose himself in midfield and was dominated during a first-half spell in which Spurs almost went ahead.
Frank Lampard: 8
Continues to make a mockery of Andre Villas-Boas’ eagerness to phase him out. Glorious strike for Chelsea’s fourth goal and produced an all-round composed display.
Juan Mata: 8
Aside from his controversial goal and a decent chance he failed to take in the first half, the Spaniard was again exceptional. His pass for Ramires summed Mata up and his movement and creativity caused Spurs major problems.
Salomon Kalou: 6
A couple of decent moments in the first half but otherwise struggled to impose himself.
Didier Drogba: 8
Scored a great goal and led the line superbly. Far too strong for fading ex-Chelsea man William Gallas, who was woeful.
Gary Cahill: 6
Came on for the injured Luiz and helped steady the ship before Chelsea dominated the final stages.

Drogba MOTM for me…gave King a torridd time as well as Gallas. King better than JT??? Dont think so. Also though Bosingwa had a tidy game, don’t rate the guy but fair play to him he did well.

spurs fan here ..
gotta say the blues totally deserved it & wanted it more.
so the goal was a shocking decision by the ref but then again no arguments for the other 4
drogba was immense & that was the difference between the 2 sides something which spurs have been lacking since berbatov was sold off to united … a cutting edge in front of goal.
maybe a blessing in disguise for spurs as no more distractions in the fight for 4th place in the prem which IMHO is more important.
good luck in the cup competitions.. you’ll need it for the barca game methinks
