Goals from N’Golo Kante and David Luiz gave Chelsea a stunning victory over the champions at Stamford Bridge.
Manchester City dominated the first 45 minutes and the home side struggled to get out of their own half before Kante struck just before the interval.
City were undone by Luiz’s superb ball over the top and Eden Hazard teed up Kante to fire into the roof of the net.
And Luiz headed in Hazard’s left-wing corner with 12 minutes remaining to seal Chelsea’s win – and City’s first Premier League defeat of the season.
It was the perfect response by Chelsea after some below-par recent performances.
They almost added a late third, with substitute Ross Barkley heading narrowly wide.
Chelsea: Arrizabalaga, Azpilicueta, Rudiger, Luiz, Alonso, Jorginho, Kante, Kovacic (Barkley 61), Pedro, Hazard (Giroud 90), Willian (Loftus-Cheek 75).
Subs not used: Caballero, Fabregas, Christensen, Emerson.
