Toothless Blues draw with Liverpool
Chelsea’s shortcomings in front of goal were evident again as they began life after Graham Potter with a frustrating goalless draw.
The Blues, with Bruno Saltor in caretaker charge following the sacking of Potter as head coach, created a number of opportunities – as did Liverpool – but had to settle for a point and remain 11th in the Premier League table.
Mateo Kovacic missed a couple of great chances for Chelsea, who had two goals disallowed.
In the first half, Reece James fired in but the goal was ruled out for an offside.
And early in the second, Chelsea thought they had gone ahead courtesy of Kai Havertz.
N’Golo Kante, back in the starting XI along with Wesley Fofana, played in Havertz, whose shot was saved by keeper Alisson with the ball ricocheting off the German and into the net.
However, the celebrations were halted when VAR established that the ball had gone in off Havertz’s hand.
