Chelsea v Arsenal player ratings
Chelsea moved up to third in the Premier League table with 1-1 draw against Arsenal at Stamford Bridge. Here’s how we each Blues player.
Robert Sanchez: 6
Made a big first-half save to deny Gabriel Martinelli after Levi Colwill gave the ball away, but perhaps could have done better when the Brazilian scored by squeezing the ball past him at the near post.
Malo Gusto: 6
Very fluid throught the game, often popping up in midfield positions. Had the best chance of the opening 25 minutes, heading over from close range after Pedro Neto delivered a dangerous cross. Was caught napping for Arsenal’s goal, but he wasn’t the only defender to leave two free men at the back post.
Wesley Fofana: 6
Closed down Arsenal’s attackers as they looked to pull the trigger around the box, but like Gusto, should have been more alert to the danger before Martinelli’s goal. Also came close to opening the scoring after the break, stretching to flick over the bar from a deep Noni Madueke cross.
Levi Colwill: 6
Was sloppy at times and gave the ball away twice in dangerous positions, where he was lucky not to be punished.
Marc Cucurella: 7
Match up well against Bukayo Saka, who got little change out of the Spaniard. Was arguably the most assured of Chelsea’s backline.
Moises Caicedo: 8
Welcomed Arsenal’s Martin Odegaard back with a brutal shoulder barge that left his opponent flat on his back early on. Also looked comfortable controlling the midfield and even played a few eye-catching forward passes.
Romeo Lavia: 7
Picked the ball up in deep areas as he looked to spring Chelsea counter-attacks, but didn’t impose himself on the game as much as his midfield partner. Was replaced by Enzo Fernandez midway through the second half.
Noni Madueke: 6
Was strong in possession against a physical Arsneal side. Also did some important defending in the first half when Chelsea struggled to clear from a corner. But as the game opened up after the break, he wasn’t able to make a huge impact.
Cole Palmer: 6
Drew the first save of the game with a long-range effort tipped over by David Raya. Didn’t quite look at his best – he was an injury doubt ahead of kick-off. Also fired a couple of disappointing free-kicks into the Arsenal wall.
Pedro Neto: 8
Chelsea best attacking player on an afternoon when chances were tough to come by. Drilled in the equaliser from 25 yards after collecting the ball from Fernandez in midfield. Showed impressive work-rate as he has done all season.
Nicolas Jackson: 6
Did well to hold the ball up around the Arsenal box and draw a couple of free-kicks in dangerous positions, but struggled for chances on a quiet afternoon.
Enzo Fernandez: 7
Provided the assist for Neto’s goal within minutes of coming off the bench.
Mykhailo Mudryk: 6
Unable to follow up an impressive midweek performance with another goal, but asked a few questions of the Arsenal defence with his blistering pace down the left side.
