Chelsea top after beating Spurs again
Chelsea 2 Tottenham 1
Victor Moses’ goal clinched another derby triumph for leaders Chelsea – and a seventh consecutive Premier League victory.
Tottenham, who have not won at Stamford Bridge for nearly 27 years, led through Christian Eriksen’s goal until Pedro curled home a glorious equaliser just before the interval.
Chelsea were much sharper at the start of the second period and took the lead courtesy of the in-form Moses’ fourth goal of the season.
Diego Costa’s low ball in from the left ran all the way to an unmarked Moses, whose shot struck keeper Hugo Lloris and then cannoned into the net off Spurs defender Jan Vertonghen on the line.
Chelsea, whose previous six wins came without conceding a goal, went behind after 11 minutes.
Dele Alli darted towards the edge of the penalty area and laid the ball off to Eriksen, who sent a thumping shot beyond keeper Thibaut Courtois.
Spurs had made the early running and had a goal disallowed when Harry Kane bundled the ball into the net from Eriksen’s free-kick but had strayed offside.
However, there was no room for doubt when Eriksen belted home his first league goal of the campaign.
The visitors continued to threaten, with Courtois pushing over a shot from Kane and Eriksen firing over following a slick Spurs move.
At the other end, Lloris was down quickly to gather David Luiz’s free-kick and a low shot from Eden Hazard before Pedro levelled in style.
Worse followed for Spurs when Moses netted six minutes into the second half.
And after setting up Moses’ goal from the left, Costa pulled the ball back from opposite flank for Marcos Alonso, who blasted over.
Willian, on as a substitute, also missed a decent chance to make it three.
