Chelsea to appeal against Courtois red card
Chelsea are to appeal against Thibaut Courtois’ sending-off against Swansea.
The Blues goalkeeper was red-carded in the 52nd-minute of Saturday’s 2-2 draw at Stamford Bridge following a foul on Bafetimbi Gomis, who equalised for the visitors with the resulting penalty.
Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho refused to comment on the incident when asked about it after the match.
Courtois will be suspended for Sunday’s game at Manchester City unless his club’s appeal, which will be heard by the Football Association on Tuesday, is upheld.
Asmir Begovic came on as a substitute for his Chelsea debut following Courtois’ dismissal.
Begovic, who was signed from Stoke this summer, will be in line to start at City if Courtois is unavailable.
