Chelsea on verge of sealing Cahill deal

Chelsea are on the verge of completing the signing of England defender Gary Cahill from Bolton.

The Blues had bid for Cahill accepted almost two weeks ago but his proposed move has been delayed by wrangling over personal terms, prompting speculation that Liverpool would look to hijack the deal.

But Chelsea now appear to have reached an agreement with the 26-year-old, whose switch is expected to be rubber-stamped within the next 48 hours.

Tottenham were also interested in Cahill and failed with an attempt to sign him before the August transfer window closed.

Chelsea want him to shore up their defence, which has looked vulnerable during Andre Villas-Boas’ troubled first season as manager.
