MK Dons manager Karl Robinson will hold talks with Chelsea today in a bid to convince them to let Patrick Bamford stay until the end of the season, but admits he seems to be fighting a losing battle.
The 20-year-old striker has been in prolific form for the League One side this term, scoring 16 goals in 28 appearances, but his loan deal expires on 5 January.
And Chelsea have indicated that they are keen for Bamford to be tested in the Championship.
Robinson said: “I’m speaking to Chelsea but I’ll be surprised if he is still with us in January.
“I’m desperate to keep him. He’s a special talent, scored a number of goals, and he is someone who will go from strength to strength.”
Bamford also enjoyed a successful loan spell at Stadium:MK last season and is a Chelsea team-mate of Brentford’s on-loan midfielder George Saville, who looks likely to have his stay at Griffin Park extended.
“If George Saville stays at Brentford then I don’t see why Patrick can’t stay with us,” Robinson added.
“Saville is a Chelsea player so what’s the difference? Hopefully we can sort something out.”
