Chelsea are braced for bad news on the condition of Pedro, who suffered a hamstring injury during Saturday’s 2-1 win against Southampton.
The Spaniard went off after just six minutes of the match at St Mary’s and boss Guus Hiddink said afterwards that he feared Pedro would be sidelined during busy period of games in which Chelsea face Paris St-Germain in the Champions League and Everton in the FA Cup.
And on Monday afternoon Hiddink remained pessimistic about Pedro’s chances of making a quick recovery.
“Yesterday he was here for treatment,” Hiddink said ahead of Tuesday’s trip to Norwich City.
“Normally with these kind of injuries – but I need the information from the medical staff – I’m not that positive that it will be resolved in a few days.”
And Hiddink admitted he could rest Diego Costa ahead of next week’s European match.
The striker, who has scored five goals in his last nine appearances, has previously struggled with hamstring trouble.
“There is a possibility (Costa will be rested), yes. We have two league games coming up before PSG,” said Hiddink, whose team face Stoke on Saturday.
“We must be careful with some players that they are not going over the top.”
Chelsea are also continuing to assess the fitness of John Terry, who has been out since picking up a hamstring injury in the 5-1 win against Newcastle on 13 February.
“John is doing some running. We’ll see how he reacts after training this week,” said Hiddink.
“I’m cautious, because with these type of injuries there is a danger of getting a setback. You must be careful.”
