Chelsea optimistic over Kovacic injury

Chelsea do not believe an injury Mateo Kovacic picked up against Cardiff is any cause for concern.

Kovacic, signed on a season-long loan from Real Madrid, went off five minutes into the second half at Stamford Bridge, where the Blues won 4-1.

But head coach Maurizio Sarri has been told by Chelsea’s medical team that the problem does not appear to be serious.

Asked if he was concerned about Kovacic’s injury, Sarri said: “No. I asked the doctor a few minutes ago and he said it’s not serious.”

Chelsea’s win took them top of the Premier League, above Liverpool on goal difference.
