Chelsea’s Giroud eyes future USA move
Chelsea striker Olivier Giroud admits his Stamford Bridge days appear numbered and says he could finish his career playing in the MLS.
Giroud, who was on target twice in France’s 7-1 win over Ukraine on Wednesday, almost moved to Tottenham last January but signed a one-year deal after his goals helped the Blues reach the last-eight of the Champions League.
However, the arrival of German forward Timo Werner has seen the 34-year-old former Arsenal man slip further down Frank Lampard’s striking pecking order and Giroud admits a move to the United States appeals to him after recent speculation linking him to to Inter Milan and Juventus came to nothing.
“I’ve been close to moving to Serie A,” Giroud told France’s RMC Sport.
“They appreciate experienced players there, but the transfer didn’t materialise.
“For the future we will see what happens. I will decide by evaluating the opportunities I will have.
“I’m not ruling out anything, but for now I don’t see me returning to Ligue 1.
“I’d like to play at the highest level in Europe for another two or three years, then maybe I’ll go to the United States.”
